Girls’ Generation Earns Triple Crown on Inkigayo

Girls’ Generation earns a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo on November 13.

Due to the absence of SBS Inkigayo last week on November 6, the awarding of the Mutizen Song award was delayed to this week and during the first few minutes of the show, Girls’ Generation was awarded with last week’s Mutizen Song award. Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yoona, and Seohyun appeared for the award presentation and surprised the fans by wearing suits.

A pre-recorded performance of “The Boys” was broadcasted near the end of the show. The nine girls were unable to record their performance live because of the 2011 K-Pop Music Festival in Sydney, Australia on November 12. For this performance, Girls’ Generation performed in suits, emphasizing their strong feel for “The Boys”. During Tiffany’s line, she grabbed her tie and that gave a strong impression to the fans, leaving them entranced with her strong stage presence.

After the performances for the day ended, the show proceeded with the announcement for this week’s Mutizen Song. The winner for this award is none other than Girls’ Generation, securing all three triple crowns for “The Boys”. The five girls accepted the Mutizen trophy and expressed their gratefulness for this award. Unfortunately, today’s Inkigayo was cut short and the encore performance was not shown.

Girls’ Generation has also made another outstanding achievement today. Since Inkigayo switched to awarding Mutizen Song awards in 2003, Girls’ Generation has officially surpassed their previous record held by label-mate TVXQ with 20 awards. Congratulations!

SNSD Rewrites Girl Group History, Again

SNSD Rewrites Girl Group History, Again

SNSD have once again re-written girl group history, this time breaking their own record and setting a new one by being the first girl group to exceed 200,000 in album sales.

On November 10, Gaon Chart, which is a certified music chart, announced that SNSD’s 3rd full album “The Boys” sold 227,994 albums in the month of October. What is even more surprising is the fact that because this album was released on October 19, it means that over 200,000 albums was sold within two weeks.

Gaon Chart explained, “The number of albums sold for SNSD’s recent album is the highest record yet for a girl group. If we look at the overall ranking in album sales throughout the year across all artists, SNSD comes in third place after Super Junior and DBSK.” They also mentioned, “SNSD’s past two album, 2nd full album “OH!” and 3rd mini-album “Hoot”, holds album sales records of 197,934 and 163,066 respectively.”

They also added, “Over the past year, with the increase of the K-Pop boom, the overall album sales of Korean idols have increased dramatically. Before the K-Pop boom struck, most albums were sold through fans living in Korea. But now international fans have started ordering albums through Korean record stores online.”

For the month of October, after SNSD on the album chart was Kim Hyun Joong in second place with his 2nd mini-album “Lucky”, selling 94,784 copies. In third place was international super stars JYJ, who have recently successfully finished their first solo concert in Spain and Germany, selling 81,867 copies of their album “In Heaven”.

Gaon Chart’s album sales is calculated by subtracting the wholesale quantities (the number of albums sold) from the total amount in the corresponding warehouses of each record label, then the final value is calculated by aggregating the figures.

The top two artists with the highest records in album sales this year are: Super Junior, selling 329,035 albums with their 5th full album “Mr. Simple”, and DBSK selling 244,128 albums with “Why (Keep Your Head Down)”.

Taiwanese girl group ‘Super 7′ accuse SNSD of being plastic

Super 7, the girl group unofficially labeled the Taiwanese version of SNSD have bluntly accused the SNSD ladies of being ‘plastic’.

The Taiwanese media conducted an interview with Super 7 that was released through a recent issue of a weekly magazine.

The ladies who were previously criticized for poorly imitating SNSD in their MV remarked, “At first we were so offended so we cried a lot but we now understand why the MV might have upset the fans. We also feel that criticism is another form of interest, and are able to better deal with negative comments.”

They continued, “There are a few SNSD members that can sing and dance well, but the rest of the members have no special appeals. The SNSD girls have all undergone plastic surgery, but we are natural beauties and their bodies can’t even compare to ours.”

They then quickly changed their attitude by saying, “We’re not saying that we will ever be able to be better than SNSD, but we will view them as our role models.”

Flabbergasted Korean fans who heard their comments remarked, “They should probably learn to be more humble“, “They’re not natural beauties, but rather natural, ordinary citizens“, and “Just please quit copying their stuff“.

The concept behind Super 7 is that their average age is only 22, and that they all have ‘C’ cup chest sizes.
